A flock of 36 common scoter dropped onto the flash this morning at 8am and
fortunately were still there when I arrived at 11:30am. They were all females
or 1st winters and remained until 3:15pm when they flew high west.
Looking at this photo and others that I have, it would appear that between 25
- 30 birds had pale bellies and were therefore 1st winters.
