The birding's been a bit quiet on Barra today, just a few year ticks added to
the holiday list. Best bird probably this ringtail hen harrier at Eoligarry.
The scenery though has been just as breathtaking and the colours incredible.
This common seal was at Cleat.
This sea inlet is about 100m from our cottage and has an interesting selection
of birds including teal, red-breasted mergansers and best of all today a
greenshank which was new for the holiday.
That's our cottage in the middle of the photo, taken from the same vantage
point as the previous photo, looking in the opposite direction.
We spent some time at Cleat this afternoon which is always worth a visit.
We've seen red-backed shrike here in the past but today the only migrant was a
juvenile wheatear. Other birds included 15 twite, two red-throated divers, 20
ringed plover and lots of stonechats. The main thing is, Cleat always feels
like it's got potential to turn something up.
Is it the Caribbean? No it's Cleat!
