Hodbarrow RSPB is at Millom in the South Lakes and is the home to a tern
colony which comprises around 400 Sandwich terns plus common and little
tern.
The tern colony with Black Combe behind.
Bloody cranesbill.
Pyramidal orchid. These are mainly a coastal species in the north west, but
they used to grow on Mucky mountains at Earlestown which is where I saw my
first. Last time I looked there I didn't see any and the site was degraded and
probably unsuitable for them now.
Bee orchids are nearly over now.
Kidney vetch.
The little egret colony at Hodbarrow. I counted at least 40 birds.
